Vampire BootLoader (VBL) takes care of the correct mapping of the kickstarts ROMs. Coffin has it 's own version of the 3.x Rom called Coffin.rom. VBL installs MiamiDX by default on Amiga OS, like Coffin, AmiKIt, OS 3.1, 3.9 etc. MiamiDX was a commercial product, but is discontinued and thus considered abandonware. Vampire BootLoader (VBL) and Coffin offer demo-version of Roadshow which will stop after 30 minutes. Roadshow is active commercial product which can be licensed. Apollo OS which is AROS based has an integrated TCP/IP stack. Roadshow is a TCP/IP stack for Amiga OS, like AmiTCP and MiamiDX. OS 3.1.4 is not based on OS 3.9 but is a based on older OS 3.1
then improved in this came OS 3.5 and improved on this came OS 3.9. If you look back in history than based on OS 3.0 came OS 3.1. Its the newest development and has the most modern features build in right from the start, including RTG, network, USB and other modern stuff. In my opinion the best is or will be ApolloOS. I normally go searching web/forums and so on before making new posts, but I found it a bit head scratching to do when it comes to Amiga as the whole community seems divided into so many groups and camps that its a mess, and my questions fits best on this forum anyway since the hardware I use is the V4. Since this is a whole new tread anyway,I would leave it with these questions for the opening, but I do have more to come.
#AMIGA OS 3.9 NETWORK INSTALL#
Did I understand it correctly that Amiga OS 3.1.4 is the most recent one for the mk68 ? I have not yet tried this on the Vampire, but if there is reasons to have it I would install it too.įor those that maybe have all OS`s (or several) added to the V4BL is the reason for this compatibility issues? I have no experience from past with this either of course, and I`m even a bit confused to the version number system. What is the difference with the net that just works in Apollo OS and if I used Roadshow?įrom those with life-time experience with Amiga and lot more experience with the V4 than me,what Kickstarts do perform the best with each of the OS`s available ? Since I have a few different one to choose from and I noticed when playing around in UAE that Coffin OS booted way faster with one over the other (the one Coffin OS came bundled with was slower if I remember correct) it would be nice to know your opinions on this. If I understand correctly roadshow is an IP-stack of sorts (?),but since I never needed it (yet) in Apollo OS or even on my trials in UAE with Coffin OS I wonder when is it needed and for whom? Since this is my first extended Amiga usage I have little experience with most of these things. On my test run of Coffin within UAE I never had much issues as far as I remember, but when I got it running on the V4 and choose not to use Roadshow, (because I knew I did not add the files in my turbo-install V4BL-setup)but Coffin boots with no net,and the only way I get it online is to go to dropdown menu on Roadshow > Remove device (or something) and then I also choose "network > online" then its online. I find that Coffin OS so far crash more often than Apollo OS,but I would not be shocked if this is because I`m just new to Amiga in general.ĭuring my turbo-install on UAE I did not add anything like roadshow or DX(?something) as I had no idea if that is needed,or exactly what it is needed for,or who is it needed for. The price for a Vampire-version is not that crazy though, but I feel I`d like the inputs from the community before I buy it.
#AMIGA OS 3.9 NETWORK SOFTWARE#
I have the "Linux" version of Amikit, but it runs WinUAE within Wine and to be honest that is one layer to much of software emulation to decide if its a good product or not. Some are actually more related to Amiga in general I suppose, but I`ll start out with the ones related to the Standalone.Īs I did not buy the V4 for gaming, but rather to see the different OS in a sorta daily use (not web-browsing/yt/etc,but chatting/tinkering/music-creation),which OS is the one others that are not mainly using the Vampire for games most happy with? I have yet to decide if I should buy the Amikit for Vampire. So after finally getting to try Coffin OS and Aros Vision on the V4 I got a tons of questions. V4 Supported OS's and Other Amiga Questions. Welcome to the Apollo Forum This forum is for people interested in the APOLLO CPU.
